Summary from Goodreads:

 DOON…

Veronica doesn't think she's going crazy. But why can't anyone else see the mysterious blond boy who keeps popping up wherever she goes? When her best friend, Mackenna, invites her to spend the summer in Scotland, Veronica jumps at the opportunity to leave her complicated life behind for a few months.

But the Scottish countryside holds other plans.

Not only has the imaginary kilted boy followed her to Alloway, she and Mackenna uncover a strange set of rings and a very unnerving letter from Mackenna's great aunt—and when the girls test the instructions Aunt Gracie left behind, they find themselves transported to a land that defies explanation. Doon seems like a real-life fairy tale, complete with one prince who has eyes for Mackenna and another who looks suspiciously like the boy from Veronica's daydreams. But Doon has a dark underbelly as well. The two girls could have everything they've longed for...or they could end up breaking an enchantment and find themselves trapped in a world that has become a nightmare.

DOON is loosely based on the premise of the musical Brigadoon, with permission from the ALan Jay Lerner Estate and the Frederick Loewe Foundation. Follow the journey at http://www.DoonSeries.com

Review:

Okay, so I've seen quite a few great reviews for the Doon series and I've heard quite a few different people rave about it. I'll admit that before this book I hadn't read anything having to do with Scotland or Scottish traditions/folklore. So I wasn't quite sure what I would be getting myself into by reading this series. Despite this I decided to give it a try since the e-books were on sale on Amazon.

I'm extremely glad that I gave this book a chance because it was definitely an enjoyable read. Doon is told by two best friends, Veronica and Mackenna. I really enjoyed the two voices that these authors used. Both girls are incredible friends and have such a great bond! I absolutely love that they are stronger together and that they acknowledge that. I also enjoyed the fact that Veronica and Mackenna are different people with different likes. Veronica appealed to the book lover in me while Mackenna appealed to the music lover in me. It was so great to see both personalities getting along.

The whole story of Doon was interesting as well. It took me a little bit to get used to the Scottish accents but I'm loving it now that I've been reading. The world is definitely easy to delve into and the characters are all really fun and interesting to read about. Jamie, Duncan, Fergus, and Fiona to name a few. The bond that these characters form with Veronica and Mackenna is pretty awesome.

Overall, Doon was an interesting and hooking read. It was easy to get stuck in this magical world and to become invested in the characters. Their personalities were real and they were all realistically stubborn at times. :) I cannot wait to go on with the series and see where these characters end up and how they grow. I definitely recommend!
