4 stars - Fantastic Retelling!

Many readers know the tale of Robin Hood, but they will be swept away by this new version full of action, secrets, and romance.

Posing as one of Robin Hood’s thieves to avoid the wrath of the evil Thief Taker Lord Gisbourne, Scarlet has kept her identity secret from all of Nottinghamshire. Only the Hood and his band know the truth: the agile thief posing as a whip of a boy is actually a fearless young woman with a secret past. Helping the people of Nottingham outwit the corrupt Sheriff of Nottingham could cost Scarlet her life as Gisbourne closes in.

It’s only her fierce loyalty to Robin—whose quick smiles and sharp temper have the rare power to unsettle her—that keeps Scarlet going and makes this fight worth dying for.

I have been wanting to read this book for a long time now and I was finally able to get my hands on it! Scarlet is an intriguing and suspenseful retelling of a beloved tale of mine, Robin Hood. What did I love about this book? Robin Hood wasn't the main character. Don't get me wrong, I LOVE Robin Hood, but I thought it was definitely creative and just interesting to write about a different character. I wouldn't have thought about there even being a Scarlet but I really enjoyed her character and the story itself.

Scarlet is a strong and independent young women. She has been through quite a few predicaments which we learn throughout the book. She has secrets and at times has trust issues. She isn't a perfect character and at times I was wishing she would make a decision but she was a character I enjoyed reading about. I LOVED Robin and of course Munch and John. They were easy to love and added to the story. There were of course the villains and the characters the you could easily be annoyed with.

Overall Scarlet was intriguing, funny and full of suspense and some romance. Scarlet's own story of her past was interesting and different and added to the whole Robin Hood tale. I really can't wait for the next book to come out because I need to know what comes of Scarlet and the rest of the group. If you love Robin Hood and want to read a refreshing retelling then this is the book for you. Either way check it out!
